This blog isn’t about me, it’s about New York.  Or rather, it’s about me and New York, a city that is anything but normal.  It won’t chronicle the trivia of my daily life, unless that trivia relates significantly to New York, in which case maybe it isn’t trivia.  This project began as weekly e-mail vignettes for several out-of-town friends who have visited New York, love it, and love stories about it.  Then some friends who live in the city asked to receive the vignettes as well, and several of them urged me to turn them into a blog.  So I did.

If you think New York is too big, too noisy, too dirty, too congested, and too arrogant, please stick around; I agree.  If you want little snippets that you can scan quickly before moving on, this blog probably isn’t for you.  But if you think New York, for all its faults, is one of the wildest, craziest, most exciting and creative places on earth, by all means read on.

What you will find are my random comments on the city -- Occupy Wall Street, the Gay Pride Parade, alcoholics I have known, man/boy love, the true Kitty Genovese story, monuments, earth goddesses, peyote visions, WBAI and fascism, a West Village murder and the fear of night.  Interspersed with these are glances at the city's history: robber barons, abortionists, steamboats, ghouls and grave robbers, and a feminist labeled Mrs. Satan.  To know more about me, click on About Me at the top of the blog.
